Visioneering + AI = A dream come true

I used to teach strategic planning to schools in Singapore because, well, schools in Singapore are run like corporations—with their vision, mission, values, strategic goals, and KPIs.

One key aspect of strategic planning is the envisioning exercise, where teams conduct a SWOT analysis, review research papers, and then articulate what they want their organization to achieve in the next 3–5 years.

At best, this process incorporates some elements of forward-thinking into their vision and mission. At worst, it’s merely an extrapolation of the past.

So when I came across the concept of visioneering, I was immediately intrigued for two reasons.

But first, let’s look at how Božić (2025) describes it:

The technique of ‘visioneering’ is gaining importance in organizational management. By combining vision and engineering, visioneering helps organizations design a desired future and achieve strategic goals. This technique is especially useful for organizations that want to innovate their business models and predict future trends, enabling them to become drivers of change in their sector.

Anytime an old concept is synthesized with a new perspective, it grabs my attention.

But when you combine AI with visioneering, the potential impact is enormous. AI can help thousands of individuals overcome their limitations in envisioning a desired future state—and more importantly, work backward to make it a reality.

How AI Can Help with Visioneering:

  1. Simulations – AI enables companies to simulate multiple future scenarios, allowing teams to test different strategies before deciding on the best path forward.

  2. Predictions – AI leverages vast datasets to identify patterns and build predictive models. Previously, this kind of forecasting required a PhD and complex econometrics modeling. Now, AI does it with a prompt.

  3. Ideation – AI generates innovative ideas at scale by analyzing both historical data and emerging trends helping teams formulate strategies to achieve their desired future state.

I’m running a two-day workshop in Malaysia to train professionals on how to leverage AI for strategic planning.
